“I Want It Now!”—Children’s Wants and Needs – Hand in Hand Parenting

As a mom to a two year old who is as strong willed as they come, it has been a real challenge for me to remain positive in the face of her tantrums and fits. I try to be as proactive as possible in making sure we don’t get to that point, i.e. respecting when she is tired, hungry, or just plain ready to go home, but at times tantrums are unavoidable.

What I must remember is that her emotions are valid, just as mine are, she is not out to get me. She has yet to develop the means to truly explain how she is feeling inside or even why she is feeling the way she does. So as her mom it is my job to help her figure this out and in turn teach her that it’s ok to express how she is feeling both good and bad.

Let’s just say that by the end of this article, I was crying. This is just so thoughtfully and beautifully written and I hope you will enjoy it.
